A majority of people that call themselves vehicle shippers DO NOT even own a truck – they are what we call middle men or brokers. They take a significant portion of your quoted fee (anywhere form $150-300), take a non-refundable deposit and post your car on a low-bid auto transport website in hopes of finding the cheapest auto shipper they can to move your car. Typically, this process works in their favor because of the competitive nature of the car shipping business. When you receive your car there may be hidden insurance or fuel surcharges that you were never told about. The challenge comes when they take too much off the top and cannot find someone to move your car. In that case they will either call you up front and tell you they need more money or they will park your car AS LONG AS IT TAKES to find someone who is willing to do it for next to nothing. Some of these brokers, will avoid your calls and not update you of the situation. In some cases, it may take 20-30 days or more before you to get your car. The second challenge comes when your car is damaged by the “second class transporter” who moves your car. The broker assumes no responsibility and is protected from liability.
